Resolutions are plentiful as a new year begins, this year resolve to be addiction free.
People resolve to lose weight, or they may join a gym as they resolve to become more physically fit. Some resolve to spend more quality time with family, or go back to school, or get out of debt, or take their dream vacation.
As the old year ends and a new one begins, it is a time for reflection over the past and hope for the future. Sometimes there are regrets over things not done, or the previous year’s resolutions that fell by the wayside. There can also be celebrations over accomplishments or successes. It is a time of evaluating life in general.
If addiction is a part of your life, you have probably resolved to stop using. You may have tried and succeeded, for a while, but been unable to maintain it, and relapsed – perhaps many times. With every relapse comes guilt, shame and feelings of failure, but you truly want to be free from addiction. You might feel that you are weak, or that you have failed your family and everyone who cares for you. You might not know how to find long term sobriety from drugs or alcohol.
Overcoming addiction isn’t easy. But it is possible.
Just as someone joins a gym or hires a personal trainer to teach them how to become physically fit, using professional treatment can help you to become addiction free. You don’t have to do it on your own, and it doesn’t have to be as difficult as you imagined.
