For Reggie, binge drinking evolved into daily drinking, isolating from his wife and kids, and getting really unhappy.

How my problem with alcohol started
“I’m not the kind of person to get too spiritual,” says Reggie, a guest at Gulf Breeze Recovery’s non-12 step holistic drug rehab, “but going to Gulf Breeze Recovery is the best thing to ever happen to me. Here at this cozy drug and alcohol rehab in Florida, I discovered why I drank, why I mistreated myself and those who love me. Even if I didn’t have the alcohol problem, the problems I did have with loving myself and just living life would have been enough reason to go through their program.”
How I found Gulf Breeze Recovery
Like a lot of our guests, Gulf Breeze Recovery was not the first drug and alcohol rehab Reggie attended. Many of our guests who have been to one or more treatment centers and continue to relapse, realize they may have attended multiple treatment facilities but were only exposed to one program…only one. The program they attended was based on the same 12 step program offered for almost 100 years in the form of Alcoholic’s Anonymous.
We’ve learned a lot about addiction treatment since AA was first introduced. Many people who have experienced traditional treatment and failed to stay sober, find the cutting edge, compassionate treatment that is tailored to the individual not only refreshing, but transformative. They also have found that the holistic program at Gulf Breeze Recovery promotes the recovery of one’s total health.
Getting Started with Gulf Breeze Recovery’s non-12 step program: THRIVE
The first portion of our program, for those who need it, is detoxification. Some of our guests, like Reggie, only need a few days in our medically licensed detox facility. Some guests may need longer depending on their usage. Here we have 24/7 nursing care to make our guests as comfortable as possible. Guests who are withdrawing from many substances need longer stays in our detox wing which features private rooms with cable TV and other amenities.
This is where our guests get their first experience of how it feels to receive compassionate care from dedicated and caring healthcare professionals who are committed in providing a first-class detox experience.
Gulf Breeze Recovery is considered a long-term residential treatment facility. We are a serious get off and stay off drug and alcohol program, so we don’t market ourselves as a “luxury rehab.” To be effective, drug and alcohol treatment cannot be viewed as a punishment, so we provide amenities such as a private fishing pier, a new pool overlooking the water, chef prepared meals, private rooms and more to make our guests feel welcome and comfortable as they progress through the different stages of our program. These stages include the initial phase of medically licensed on-site detox, neurofeedback, spa and physical health recovery, along with mental health recovery which include private one-on-one therapy, group counseling and classes to introduce the concepts behind the THRIVE®? Total Health Recovery program.
Phase-two, getting to know the real you and setting the stage for insight; “The Aha Moment”
The importance Gulf Breeze Recovery places on restoring your healthy sleep schedule, preparing nutritious meals, implementing light exercise, as well as rejuvenating spa treatments is about more than your physical wellness, its about preparing your mind.
In Reggie’s own words: the change has been “Transformative”, “Massive”, “Tectonic!”
Although difficult, our guests try to describe their change process in their own way (watch unscripted testimonials from more of our guests). Our non-12 step holistic drug and alcohol treatment program helps people to gain an insightful understanding on the deeper “why” or underlying cause and the innocence behind the using and abusing drugs or alcohol in the first place. This understanding starts a change process from a mindset of the “not doingness” of drugs and alcohol to the “doingness” of living a happy, peaceful, serene life where relationships are preserved and the need to use drugs and alcohol no longer make sense.
In the second phase of the program, we help people rediscover their own innate health. This rediscovery is learned through one-on-one therapy, group sessions and classes with facilitator’s that have real-life experience implementing the Total Health Recovery principles.
Many of our guests have never been aware of the true “inside-out” nature of how we experience life, or maybe some have simply forgotten. Once people have an insightful understanding of innate health and who they really are, everything changes for them.
Everyone who enters our program starts to understand that they are not “broken;” they have just temporarily lost sight of their innate health that is inside all of us.
