In this episode of “Beyond Addiction”, we explore the Innate Health of the Individual.” We already have everything that we need to be happy whole content and healthy within us.
“Beyond Addiction” is a podcast dedicated to sharing an innovative perspective on addiction and recovery. In this series, we discuss an innovative, “inside out” approach to recovery.
Today we’re going to talk about innate health and what we mean by innate health innate health. We already have everything that we need to be happy whole content and healthy within us. There’s nothing that we have to do add in order to attain health, wholeness or well-being, that is innate within us, it’s in our very nature, and it’s something that we’re born with.
Even though we may experience extreme ups and downs, there’s always a way we can return to our natural health, you have moments of clarity, and then that clarity gets clouded up, we all have the ability to live in our innate health.
What does this have to do with addiction? Everything.
We spoke about the outside-in misunderstanding, the fertile soil that leads to addiction. When we start having an understanding about our innate health, we start to have an insightful understanding about what’s really going on, then all of a sudden things start to change for us. We start to realize that things outside myself can not create peace, contentment, and happiness. You know that it comes from within me and that I have it, I’ve always had it, it’s just lost you through addiction.
Most folks aren’t comfortable with the idea that you don’t have to do anything. It’s just about getting a deeper understanding and letting what happens next organically follow, can seem really foreign, but what we’re talking about here is really a process of transformation rather than this instant fix. What happens through a process of transformation is the solution we get is sustainable, its long-lasting, and it’s a different way to see ourselves and to see the world around us. It changes our relationship to ourselves to, our thinking, and to everything else.
Coming to an inside-out understanding of innate health, where we understand where our happiness and our well-being are truly coming from, does not change anything about where you’re sitting in the moment. However, it changes your outlook, and you can see the sky, you can see what’s happening around you in the world, and that inherently changes your possibilities.
You go about life differently when you can see the sky. We understand it’s always been there, even when we didn’t see it.
When we’re low all we have to do is just abide that feeling and we will come back to health, and when we’re high, same thing, we will come back to health. That fact we can always come back to this place of clarity, peace, and well-being, allows us to step back and notice when we’re off that baseline of mental health. What noticing this does is it separates us from our thinking in the moment, and it allows us to come back to mental health more quickly. We stop taking our thinking so seriously.
When people relapse it happens when either things are going really poorly or things are going really well. It’s when we are not on this baseline of contentment. When we start to realize that it’s been us all along, things really start to change. When we start to see how thinking is shaping our experience insightfully, it just doesn’t make sense for addiction to take root anymore. In addiction, power is in thought, andwhen we have this understanding ofwhereour experience is coming from, the power is withthe thinker.
There’s a way to be happier without changing your circumstances or your way of life. That’s why we’re pointing to our innate health, because it’s all within us at all time.
